Daniel Ellis Larsen
March 17, 1954 — Oct. 16, 2008

Daniel Ellis Larsen, 54, of Elkton passed away Oct. 16 of natural causes at home.
Dan was born March 17, 1954, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Following graduation from Elkton High School in 1972, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam era on the USS Niagra Falls.
Dan was artistic, creative and a man with hard-working hands. Most of his life was working as a journeyman mechanic, heavy equipment operator, fabricator and certified fabrication instructor. He held a passion for teaching these skills, and was a strong advocate for continued education.
Dan spent a number of years in the Albany area working, then returned to Elkton, a place he always considered as home. He worked at The Big K Guest Ranch and Guide Service as the maintenance manager and a gifted “jack of all trades.” No job was beneath him and he was a helpmate to all.
Dan was preceded in death by his brother, “Shorty;” his son Caleb; and his father, Carl Larsen.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie “Kesterson” Larsen; son Jared and wife Jennifer; mother Frances Larsen; sisters Bonnie Keller, Elvina Pechar and Pamela Adams; and stepchildren Seth and Gary Williamson, and Katrina Carnes. He was a loving grandfather to Kyran, Johnathan, Jaden, Joseph, Judith, Kieryn, Rylee and Gabe, and many loved nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends and extended family.
Dan was a member of the Sutherlin Ward of The Latter Day Saints.
A viewing was held today at The Chapel of the Roses in Sutherlin. A celebration of Dan’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at The Big K Guest Ranch in Elkton.
Fishing Report
September 19, 2008
The Smallmouth are still doing very well and should continue until the weather starts to cool down. This is the time of year when you can really hunt for the bigger Bass as they need to fatten up for their winter hybernation.
The Salmon are slowly starting to show up as well. We,ve been seeing quite a few Chinook along with some Coho (Silver) Salmon and the occasional Steelhead the last few weeks. As soon as the river begins to cool we will begin to target the Salmon in this section. We need cooler nights and some rains for this to happen. There is some decent fishing in the Bay right now.
